Inspire Creativity with Kids Crafts
Incorporating artistic activities into your child’s routine is important for the development of their fine motor skills, social maturity, confidence and problem-solving skills. There are all kinds of kid-friendly crafts and musical elements you can build into your repertoire that inspire family time and provide hours of entertainment. Here are several ideas we love.
Painting with Washable Finger Paints
Create an art station where your kids can express themselves on canvas. With an easel, some paint brushes, and washable finger paints to make clean-up simple, they can paint about their favorite activities, their family, or what they did at school. Ask them to tell you about the results when they’re done to help them express themselves verbally, too.
Whether your children love to play the guitar, sing their hearts out, or plunk out a tune on the piano, you can encourage their musical abilities by hosting a family musical concert. Borrow a karaoke machine from your neighbors or make your own microphone and ask your kids to pick their favorite musical numbers to present to the rest of the family. This will help them build confidence and let them experiment with different musical types, too!
Read Picture Books
Studies have shown that children learn about art by seeing art. Even if it’s simple cartoon drawings, exposing your children to visual art forms through books filled with imagery will help them learn what it is to create art so that they can make some of their own. So choose books with lots of pictures and artwork, and have art supplies handy in case they want to mimic what they see after you finish reading!
